DEALING WITH MISTAKES AFTER THE ALE

Trust me. The feeling sucks.

I’m not saying I’m an expert on this sort of psychobabble but what I am going to share is how I did things and how I dealt with the aftermath.

At some point during your cramming stage of reviewing, especially during the final stretch, you will have to accept the fact that you won’t be able to memorize each and every thing, it’s just not possible. Okay sure you might have some sort of mega mind and all that, lucky you. But for us mere mortals, we have to choose what to study and what to “ipasaDiyos” (leave to God), in our teacher’s own words. Reviewing for the board exam starts with a decision: Am I going to take the board exam? You said yes, evidently, that’s why you’re here. It ends the same way: Am I going to take the board exam? Hell yes! You’ll feel that difference too I’m sure.

Simply put, my friend and I had this brilliant backup plan. If by May we feel we are still not ready, we’d just take the January board exam. But surprise surprise, when you reach that nerve-wracking moment, you just keep soldiering on, pray and pray, and pray some more that all your studying would be enough.

Fast forward to exactly after the board exam. In case you don’t know how it works, here it is. The exam is divided into two days. Day 1 itself is divided into two – AM: HOA, TOA, and Prof Prac, and PM: Structural, Utilities, and Building Tech. Why did I include that you ask. Honestly, I didn’t consume the entire time allotted for them. Pros: you don’t get to second guess your answers, and regret not going with your first instinct in the end. Cons: Other people did this too and they sometimes discuss the questions. Worse, they google the question and discuss the answers and moan about how they made the wrong decision.

Personally, I hate this part in every exam. So what did I do? I slept. Seriously. I would rather sleep than hear my fellow examinees crucify themselves or cheer because of a right answer because by then, I would also be able to unwillingly check my answers and then I’d be crucifying myself too. The worst thing about that though is if you keep doing that, years from now, you’ll probably still be beating yourself up over that mistake, and I didn’t want that. What’s done is done.

Forward forward. Even Day 2 is done. I simply went on a vacation while the days flew by. And then the results were released. Oh my God.
